BNB Chain builds a new layer 1 for high-frequency trading and AI agents

BNB Chain has already improved its performance on BNB Smart Chain. During the first half of 2026, block times fell to 450 milliseconds from 750, while the baseline throughput increased from around 2,800 to around 5,200 transactions per second.

David Z, CTO of BNB Chain, told CoinDesk that the next phase will focus on execution rather than consensus.

“Today, all smart contracts require optimization directly at the execution level,” he said. “Chains have been fast at consensus and storage, but the execution engine itself still works as if it’s translating sentence by sentence.”

The new network will use execution layer techniques such as just-in-time compilation, which compiles code as it executes, and force reduction, which replaces expensive calculations with simpler ones.

The roadmap also reserves block space for services such as oracles, liquidations, and cross-chain bridges, as well as native privacy, account abstraction, gas sponsorship, transaction batching, scheduled execution, and password signing.

BNB Chain is separately studying quantum security. The team said it aims to enable users to adopt quantum protection without changing wallet addresses or disrupting existing applications, work that is still in the research stage.
