California Mayor Eileen Wang, accused of being a Chinese agent, resigned Monday following a deal with authorities to plead guilty to charges that she acted as an illegal agent of the Chinese government.
The 58-year-old Chinese-American politician from Arcadia, California, could face up to 10 years in prison if she pleads guilty in the coming weeks.
She immigrated to California from China about 30 years ago. In the Arcadia community, the mother of two is known for running an after-school program called Little Stanford Academy.

Wang became one of five members of the Arcadia City Council after being elected in November 2020 and became rotating mayor in February 2026.
City Manager Dominic Lazzaretto confirmed Wang’s resignation, saying the allegations against her are “extremely disturbing.”
Lazzaretto said after a thorough investigation, it was determined that she was acting alone and that no other staff members were involved.
Wang’s attorney, Brian Sun, shared the former mayor’s apology with the public, adding, “His love and dedication to the Arcadia community has not changed or wavered.” »
