- A big update is being rolled out for Coros watches
- The main feature is voice commands, currently in beta
- Strength training, automatic laps for running, and Control Center all get tweaks, as well as a new photo sharing feature.
Coros users get a nice set of new features and other updates, starting today. The May Coros Feature Update gives Coros users, especially modern users, a host of new features to play with, the main one being voice control.
Voice control can be used to start a workout profile on the watch, whether it’s walking, trail running, or even gravel cycling, with a long press of the action button. You can also make more granular changes within these profiles, like changing lanes during track runs or changing the speed of the treadmill on a treadmill running profile. You can even “record a catch” while fishing.
It can also be used for the usual assortment of reminders, activating Find My Phone, and more. If you would like early access to the feature, you can join the beta program here.
Our writer Michael Sawh recently interviewed Coros CEO Lewis Wu, and while we’ll publish the second half of that interview next week, we can reveal that the move toward voice commands is very much in line with Wu’s AI-driven vision for Coros.
He said: “We believe voice is the future…” If you want to get upgradeable hardware or a running watch, consider ones with a microphone. This is our vision. You can learn all about Coros’ AI plans in the second part of the interview, which will be published next week.
What else is new?
Other updates include personalized photo sharing, which lets you overlay your stats and recent workouts with a photo of your choice before sharing it with friends or on social media. It creates a vertical overlay with stats like speed or altitude, perfect for sharing on Instagram or Strava.
Strength mode received an update, allowing users to change reps and intensity either on the watch or in the app after the session, and rep counting accuracy would also be improved.
You can now choose to set automatic laps when running by distance or position, so you can return to where you started to start another lap. This is perfect for circle runs or hill sprints. The Control Center will also receive an update, with a new, easy-to-access layout.
The update is available starting today.
