- The latest version of Asus GPU Tweak III is delivered with a new NIFTY functionality
- The power detector + warns you if one of the pins of the supply connector of your graphics card has too much amps that cross them
- This could lead to a scenario where the food cable melts, as we have seen in the reports, so the warning should help you avoid a bad potential result
Asus has published a new version of its GPU software suite which adds what could be a very useful – or even critical warning – when temperatures are high with the graphics card, and a supply connector fusion disaster can occur.
The latest version of the TWEAK III GPU software is delivered with the Power Detector + Warning function, which Asus Note is exclusive to ROG Astral and Matrix graphics cards.
The ROG Astral models are the RTX 5090 and 5080, and the ROG matrix is the latest generation RTX 4090 lighthouse.
As Videocardz reports, the idea is that the software monitors the power cable, in particular the Amps value for the pins (inside the connector) connected to the port of your graphics card. If there is a problem with one (or more) pins are not seated correctly – and the value being zero or exceeding above 9 amps – the public service will signal a warning.
The cable that is not seated properly in this way is a possible scenario in which the power connector could end up seriously overheating to the point where it melts, as we have seen in the past with Nvidia GPUs.
This means that when you get this warning, you can quickly stop your PC, then check the power cable, may be disconnected, then start it again more firmly. Hopefully this will solve any problem and avoid a cable cast iron incident that could damage the GPU.
Analysis: more of this type of surveillance, please – although it is in the pipeline elsewhere
Interestingly, Tweak GPU software is a utility that can be used with all GPU, AMD or NVIDIA, not just Asus models either. However, there is only this warning linked to the power provided for the flagship products Asus ROG RTX 5090 and 4090, and the RTX 5080 Astral, as indicated – at least for the moment.
Perhaps the graphics card manufacturer will expand this support in time, as it is undoubtedly a useful alert system to have – and cable melting reports are not exclusive to these models.
(As well as reports of this Issue with the RTX 5090, I Should note that there have also been similar claims made with RTX 5080 Models, Too – But there thatre could be all spells of factors at play here, as we are discussed in the past. Clearly, Though, the flagship gpus will Always be in the Most Perilous Situations, Power Connector-Wise, Given the Vast Ament of Wattage They Command-Particularly if you go to overclock these beasts of office graphics cards).
Hopefully other suppliers will climb on this power warning train, although some players have already used the Hwinfo tool to monitor the amplifles of their power cable. Note that this feature for Hwinfo is only in beta test at the moment (and also requires a second utility, rivatuner, to operate).
Long and along it is that support in its own right and tested will be hopeful, at Hwinfo for too long, with a little luck. The more this type of surveillance can be widespread, the better.
