Fia launches an investigation against Farhatullah Babar

Rawalpindi:

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) launched an investigation against the former Senator of the PPP Farhatullah Babar for its presumed involvement in corruption, money laundering, tax evasion and the acquisition of illegal assets.

The survey is based on a set of 18-20 questions provided in Babar, seeking his answer. The investigation concerns his mandate as a senator.

According to sources, the investigation was launched by a private complaint filed by an individual from Rawalpindi. Following the complaint, an official opinion was given to Babar and it was called upon to appear before the FIA anti-corruption circle.

The former senator appeared before the agency before Eidul Fitr, where he was asked about his income and assets. However, the case was deferred until the holidays.

After Eid, Babar again visited the FIA anti-corruption circle in Islamabad, where he received a detailed questionnaire covering his assets, his tax files and other relevant information. He was advised by his lawyer to submit his answers after examining the questions. In the meantime, Babar asked for a copy of the complaint against him and details on the complainant, but the FIA asked him to wait.

Babar then left the FIA office, and a declaration of him in a national newspaper then specified that he had not held any post of government since 2013. He mentioned working as spokesperson for Asifi Ali Zardari.
