Cleveland Guardians outfielder Cooper Ingle suffered from brain fog Tuesday night against the Texas Rangers and pieced together a moment he’ll want to forget and move on.

The Guardians and Rangers were tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh. The Rangers had a runner on second with one out – the key phrase “one out.” Texas slugger Alejandro Osuna sent one to left field where Ingle made a routine catch for the second out of the inning.

Ingle seemed to have thought it was the third out and the inning was over. He took the ball and threw it into the stands at Progressive Field. The error in judgment allowed Rangers runner Ezequiel Duran to race home and give the Rangers the nod.

Texas won the game 4-2. Ingle was 0-for-4 at the plate with three strikeouts.

The 24-year-old only made his major league debut on Friday against the Seattle Mariners. He entered the 2026 season ranked 99th on MLB’s top 100 baseball prospects list and 65th on Baseball Prospectus’ list. He was also No. 3 among the Guardians’ prospects.

He took responsibility for this mistake and vowed it would not happen again.

“Obviously you feel terrible,” he told reporters via MLB.com. “It’s a pretty embarrassing feeling.”

With Tuesday’s result, each team now has a record of 44-42 on the year.
