Three Lions have finalized their 26-man squad for the exciting Summer World Cup.
England coach Thomas Tuchel announced the final lineup on Friday May 22, 2026.
Let’s first shed light on the surprises that have appeared on the team.
Among them, Djed Spence and Ivan Toney, who stunned the British. While Maguire, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden are the ones who couldn’t make the World Cup squad.
Among the major omissions was Morgan Gibbs-White, despite his strong performance for Nottingham Forest.
Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke were fixtures in the 26-man squad, which helped Arsenal win the Premier League championship.
Defensively, Harry Maguire goes unnoticed despite hopes of making a third World Cup, with Djed Spence a fascinating call-up to fill both full-back positions.
For the centre-back positions, Jarell Quansah offers depth while John Stones and Reece James look set to play a key role despite questions surrounding their fitness.
England manager Touchel explained his selection for the World Cup during a press conference on May 22, 2026.
Tuchel said: “I think from day one we clearly tried to select the best team possible.
“Which isn’t necessarily about putting together the best 26 individual players. Teams win championships.”
