Could this be the day when Tour of Italy 2026 is won. Some would say Jonas Vingegaard already has it in the bag, but Stage Queen can and often does.
This monstrous stage in the Dolomites is by far the most difficult of the race, with 5,000 meters of elevation gain over just 151 kilometers of course. Leaving Feltre there is not a meter of flat road as the absolutely relentless route crosses five mountain peaks before reaching the finish at the vicious summit of Piani di Pezzè.
The first climb of the day is the 12km Passo Duran, followed by the climb to Coi then the Forcella Staulanza and finally the highlight of the day and the entire race, the mighty Passo Giau. Located at 2223 m above sea level, Giau is where the Cima Coppi will be awarded to the first runner to cross its summit after 10 kilometers of unforgiving 10% gradient. This road is as beautiful as it is brutal, a feast for the eyes but a torture for the legs.
Just after the descent comes the penultimate climb, the 10 kilometer long Passo Falzarego, then it’s time to arrive at the exquisite Piani di Pezzè. These final five kilometers average over 10% with gradients as steep as 12%, it’s a wicked but worthy place to almost certainly decide who will be crowned winner of the 2026 Giro.
