Nishtar town records highest rainfall at 48.5mm, 65 LESCO supply lines trip as authorities take steps to keep roads clear

Rain, strong winds and hailstorms lashed different parts of Lahore on Saturday morning, prompting the city’s traffic, water and power authorities to activate emergency protocols and urge citizens to exercise caution amid adverse weather conditions.
According to the Meteorological Department, hailstorms were also reported in some areas. Thanks to the rain, the weather became pleasant and the intensity of the heat decreased.
The meteorological department said the rainfall system would leave Pakistan by the end of the day.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in Lahore is expected to be 27 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to reach 37 degrees, the meteorological department said. He added that hot and dry weather is expected to resume from Sunday.
Different amounts of rainfall were recorded in different parts of the city. The highest reading of 48.5 millimeters (mm) was recorded in Nishtar town, followed by Airport at 40 mm, Johar town at 37.5 mm, Lakshmi Chowk and Mughalpura at 30.5 mm each, Upper Mall at 29 mm, Tajpura at 27 mm, Chowk Nakhuda at 25 mm, Samanabad at 22.5 mm, Pani Wala Talab at 22 mm, Jail Road at 20.5 mm, Gulberg Head Office and Iqbal Town at 20 mm each, Farrukh Abad at 19 mm, Saggian at 18.5 mm, Gulshan Ravi at 17 mm, Defense Road at 15 mm and Shadipura at 0.5 mm.

As rain swept across the city and turned low-lying areas into waterlogged areas, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Vice Chairman Chaudhry Shehbaz Ahmed, Punjab Director General Tayyab Farid and Director General Ghufran Ahmed ordered that all main roads and underpasses remain clear and all field teams remain active.
In areas experiencing power outages, disposal stations were ordered to operate with generators. All disposal station pumps were instructed to remain operational with screens kept clean, and all city managers were instructed to maintain complete surveillance of their respective towns.
According to WASA officials, underpasses and main roads in the city remained clear as drainage operations continued in urban areas.
Heavy rains were also reported in various areas of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) region, causing 65 power lines to trip.
The LESCO administration called on consumers to cooperate in view of the adverse weather conditions. Citizens were asked to inform LESCO in the event of a suspension of power and to wait for staff to arrive.
Lahore Traffic Director (CTO) Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi ordered supervisory officers to remain active on the ground and deployed additional personnel to the underpasses, where guards were assisting commuters.
Citizens, especially motorcyclists, have been advised to drive carefully. The CTO, appealing to citizens to travel safely, warned residents and guards to stay away from electrical installations.
Citizens were also warned not to stand under dilapidated trees or large billboards, given the strong winds, while Shirazi asked those who needed immediate assistance and advice to call helpline 15.
