“I was crowned to serve, not to abandon”

King Charles’ secret oath at 77: “I was crowned to serve, not to resign”

King Charles’ secret strength that allowed him to rule Britain while battling cancer at age 77 has been laid bare.

The British monarch is not slowing down because of his commitment to the nations, but there is one important thing that helps him “keep going” in every crisis.

Before ascending the throne, he had to take a secret oath about the role intended for him.

Long before illness struck him in 2024, at the age of 75, King Charles seems to have held fast to a credo: “a monarch serves, he does not give up”.

There has never been a public statement. But duty, it seems, has become his private vow – and cancer won’t force him to break it.

There is no doubt that Charles’s determination and his mother’s teaching forced him to display courage to face every challenge.

However, a healthy mind needs a healthy body, and King Charles’s strict diet kept him strong despite his cancer at this point.

Like all of us, the king has to make drastic changes to his diet from time to time, and the latest one might surprise royal fans.

Although King Charles was known in the past for having a larger, more nutritious, and filling meal to start the day, it appears he has started to move away from larger breakfasts.

He was trying to eat something healthy, like cereal with nuts, fruit and honey. He was never known for eating large meals.

This is a radical departure from the protein-rich breakfast the king and his wife were known to favor in the past.

Five years ago, it was revealed on the official Clarence House Instagram page that he was enjoying ‘cheesy baked eggs’ for breakfast, along with a photo of the delicious meal and a recipe.

With wilted spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, soft cheese and double cream, plus eggs and cheese, this is a very nutritious, if rather filling, meal choice to start a long day.

It is well known that the king often skips lunch, although this may not be the case anymore, especially if he opts for smaller breakfasts.

It is common knowledge that he does not eat lunch. This unusual fact was even recognized by Clarence House in a list of 70 facts published to mark the 70th birthday of the King (formerly Prince Charles).

Without explanation, number 20 on the list was: “The Prince does not eat lunch.” However, following his cancer diagnosis in 2024, his wife, Queen Camilla, as well as his doctors reportedly advised Charles to start eating lunch.

Charles favors healthy, hearty meals using fresh produce, much of which is produced on his own grounds at Highgrove House.

The eco-warrior follows a predominantly plant-based diet to reduce his carbon footprint. “For years I haven’t eaten meat or fish two days a week and I don’t eat dairy one day a week,” the royal told the BBC in 2021.
