IHC will hear plea regarding Imran X account today

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) will today (Monday) hear a petition seeking closure of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s X account.

Judge Arbab Muhammad Tahir will preside over the hearing. The Adiala jail authorities have already submitted their response, while the court has asked other respondents to file their responses.

Imran Khan’s lawyer Salman Akram Raja is representing him in the case. The court had earlier allowed Raja to meet Imran for consultation on the case; however, the meeting could not take place despite the court order.

Meanwhile, the IHC registrar’s office assigned a number to a petition filed by Mubashra Khawar Maneka, daughter of Imran’s wife Bushra Bibi, and scheduled its hearing. In the petition, she requests that her mother be able to consult a personal doctor and requests visitation rights for her family.

In January, the country’s cybercrime watchdog, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), told the IHC that former Prime Minister Imran Khan had refused to cooperate with it regarding investigations into the PTI founder’s alleged social media posts from inside a prison.

The NCCIA has submitted a report to the IHC which is hearing a petition filed by a citizen, Ghulam Murtaza, seeking blocking of Imran Khan’s X account.

Imran Khan, detained at Adiala prison in Rawalpindi since September 2023,

regularly publishes messages on social networks, notably on X, to criticize the government and state institutions.
