Salman Akram Raja said CJP Afridi assured that Imran-related cases would be listed after Eid
ISLAMABAD:
After expressing disappointment with the Islamabad High Court (IHC), the PTI has approached the Supreme Court for substantial relief in cases involving former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated for almost three years.
PTI general secretary Salman Akram Raja, himself a senior lawyer, met Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi and sought an advance list of cases related to Imran Khan.
Speaking to the media, Raja said that CJP Afridi had assured that cases related to Imran would be listed soon after Eid. “The meeting was positive,” Raja said while speaking to The Express PK Press Club.
Earlier, Imran Khan’s lawyer had approached the Supreme Court seeking directions regarding the PTI founder’s transfer to Islamabad’s Shifa International Hospital.
He also asked the top court to allow his personal doctors, family members and legal team access to the jailed politician, as well as provide his medical records to his family.
Similarly, another petition was filed in the Supreme Court by Imran’s sister Dr Uzma Khan challenging the IHC decision denying these facilities.
Before Raja’s meeting with CJP Yahya Afridi, around 100 lawyers affiliated with the Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF) took out a march on Constitution Avenue. The protest was organized by ILF chief organizer Intezar Panjutha.
PTI lawyers believe the protest had an impact, as CJP Afridi later invited Raja for a meeting.
It is learned that PTI may approach the SC against the IHC order in the ₹190 million case.
Political analysts say meetings with Imran could only be restored if he stopped criticizing the security establishment during his communications with his family members in prison.
