Karol G thought she would leave the American Music Awards stage with a major victory. Then John Legend surprised her with another one.
On Monday (May 25), the Colombian superstar accepted the International Artist Award of Excellence during the ceremony at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, with Legend presenting him with the honor. But what she didn’t know was that she had also won Best Latin Album for Tropicoqueta.
Accepting the first prize, Karol said: “What an honour, John, that you have given me this prize. It’s a ‘legend’, it will definitely be a legendary moment in my career.
Born Carolina Giraldo Navarro, the Latina singer Foreva went on to thank God for allowing her to “lead the most incredible life,” noting that she “found [her] a goal through music.
“I’m just happy to be able to perform a song and be able to sing things in my song that become a voice for a lot of people,” she continued. “I just think my life has meaning through my music and helping others through it.”
She concluded, “I’m super grateful, I’m super happy, I’m super honored.”
But before she could leave the stage, Legend interrupted her with a surprise announcement.
“Okay, Karol, before you go, we have a little extra surprise for you,” he told her. “I’m happy to say that in addition to this incredible award, you also won Best Latin Album. Congratulations.”
The revelation immediately sent Karol G into screams of excitement as the crowd erupted around her.
