The package will focus on new police stations, strengthen security infrastructure, create modern police stations and vehicles
PESHAWAR:
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police has formally approached the federal government for a special plan to deal with the deteriorating security situation in the province, especially in its most sensitive southern districts.
The program is expected to focus on building police stations, strengthening security infrastructure, establishing new police stations and providing modern vehicles.
The move follows a series of consecutive terrorist attacks, prompting provincial authorities to inform the federal government of the situation on the ground.
According to sources, the police have identified Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Tank as high priority areas in the proposed plan forwarded to the Center through the KP government.
A senior police officer told The Express PK Press Club that initially the Fateh Khel check post in Bannu will be converted into a concrete structure to improve protection of personnel.
The officer further revealed that the federal government had received a comprehensive report detailing the recent rise in terrorism in KP, including the increasing use of cutting-edge technology by the militants.
The report also outlines countermeasures taken by police, including efforts to disrupt activist networks and prevent attacks involving modern tools such as quadcopters.
Following the recent visit of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to Peshawar, the authorities submitted an in-depth assessment highlighting the challenges faced in maintaining law and order. The report highlights the dilapidated state of police lines in the southern districts, many of which have not been rebuilt since colonial times.
