KARACHI:

The Red Line project on University Road has become a growing source of frustration for citizens, with residents describing the ongoing construction work as a prolonged ordeal and questioning the quality of the work being done.

Although authorities recently completed and opened a stretch of road from Safari Park to Nipa Chowrangi to traffic, the stretch reportedly started sinking in several places within days of its opening.

The road developed depressions of approximately four to six inches in several locations, while manhole covers were installed above the road surface, creating hazardous conditions for motorists, especially motorcyclists.

Citizens are concerned that the uneven surface and raised covers could lead to serious accidents as traffic continues to flow through the area.

The situation has added to public concerns over the construction of the Red Line on University Road, which residents say has already caused serious hardship over the past four and a half years due to prolonged delays and disruptions.

Following the emergence of these issues, traffic has now been diverted to an adjacent road after the affected section was reportedly closed again for remedial works.
