- Oura brings key features of its Ring 5 wearable to older models
- Features include Health Radar, live activity tracking, and more.
- They are now available on the Oura Ring 4 and Ring 3
Oura just released its Ring 5 wearable, and we were pretty impressed with what was on display when we reviewed it. But if you haven’t been tempted to upgrade and are instead using an Oura Ring 4 or Ring 3, you might be wondering if you’ll miss out on the new features built into the latest model.
Well, the good news is that many new features have just rolled out to these older products. Specifically, Oura offers Health Radar, live activity tracking, many Oura Labs tools, lost device tracking, and much more.
Live activity tracking is a notable addition, as it adds real-time workout metrics to the Oura app, allowing you to track your progress while staying fit and active. This turns the Oura Ring into much more of a training partner than before.
Health Radar is also an important update. With it, your Oura Ring can evaluate your long-term health signals in the background, including changes in your heart and breathing rate, to detect any emerging trends in your health and well-being.
You can find the full list of updates in the Oura blog post. If you’re thinking about whether to upgrade, this might be an interesting read.
A welcome change
Changes like this are welcome, especially since the Oura Ring 4 is currently less than two years old. It’s never nice to see relatively new technology missing key software features that could potentially be backported to it, so the fact that this has happened will be great news for owners of the Oura Ring 4 and Oura Ring 3.
The update also appears to have been well received by customers. Posting on Reddit, user beanizzle noted that his Oura Ring can now recognize long-haul travel without any status having to be entered manually. Speaking about this change, the user said: “This is definitely a cool new feature as I sometimes struggle to remember to give my body more grace after crossing time zones.”
They were not alone. Further down the thread, other commenters noted how their readiness scores deteriorated after doing red-eye flights, while another Redditor said the feature was “long overdue but so happy to have it!” »
If these are the kinds of features you’re looking for in a wearable, Oura’s latest update means you may not need to upgrade to an Oura Ring 5 if you already own a Ring 4 or Ring 3. And anything that can extend the life of your existing wearables is good for us.
