“ Maritime, reform of energy to stimulate trade ”

Islamabad:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Monday that reforms in maritime and energy sectors would increase trade, reduce costs and release Pakistan’s economic potential.

The Prime Minister made these remarks while presiding over a high -level meeting to examine progress on the vast government reforms in the maritime sector. He stressed that complete efforts were underway to transform the country’s port infrastructure, rationalize customs operations and strengthen the country’s maritime economy for a long -term national benefit.

He praised the working group on maritime reforms for his work diligent and welcomed their efforts in the preparation of a full set of recommendations aimed at putting an end to the stagnation of decades in the sector.

“Pakistan was fortunate to have a long coastline and vast maritime resources. With the right reforms, we can unlock an immense economic potential and bring our ports to global competitive standards,” said Prime Minister Shehbaz.

He noted that the reduction in the electricity rate from nearly RS7.5 per unit was the direct result of the targeted work of a working group dedicated to reforms in the energy sector.

The Prime Minister stressed that the same model -based model was now applied to the maritime sector.

“This reduction in electricity prices is a major relief not only for households, but also for all sectors such as agriculture, trade, trade and industry. It will lower the cost of production, will improve local manufacturing, will generate a job and improve exports,” he said.

The Prime Minister noted that structural reforms remained at the heart of the government’s economic strategy, which had already stabilized the macroeconomic indicators of Pakistan.

He also underlined the opportunity presented by the recent drop in world oil prices and assured that the government was working to exploit its long -term advantages for the economy of Pakistan.

The meeting examined a detailed presentation on the roadmap for reforms in the maritime sector.

The participants in the meeting were informed of the introduction of maritime Port Act Act, unifying the regulations in all ports, creation of a national dredging plan, including the training of a national dredging company to serve ports across the country.

The forum has also discussed the modernization of Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) with a 25-year rehabilitation plan and the inclusion of the private sector through public-private partnerships. It was informed that a hazardous waste elimination plant had been created in Gadani to manage chemical and industrial waste.
