Matt Damon and Ben Affleck face legal trouble over their Netflix crime thriller The tear.
Miami police filed a lawsuit, claiming the film damaged their reputation.
The film, released in January under Damon and Affleck’s Artists Equity production company, is inspired by the 2016 Miami Lakes drug raid.
The case involved a major police operation that resulted in the seizure of more than $24 million in cash.
Police officers involved in the actual operation now say the film gives a false and unfair picture of what happened.
According to the lawsuit reported by local media, they claim the film portrays them as corrupt and dishonest.
Detective Jonathan Santana, who led the original case, said the film changed the way people perceived him.
He explained that instead of being respected for his work, he now faces jokes and accusations from the public about stealing money.
The lawsuit claims the film includes made-up scenes showing agents behaving illegally, working with criminals and planning to take the seized money for themselves.
Officers say it caused lasting damage to their reputation.
Their lawyer also argued that the characters in the film were equally “dirty” and unfairly damaged their clients’ names.
The Rip, which also stars Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Scott Adkins and Steven Yeun, continues to face criticism for its depiction of real events and the city where the raid originally took place.
