The group of former northwest football players would have agreed to settle their prosecution against school, who claimed hazing and abusive behavior.

Fitzgerald was initially suspended two weeks in 2023, but he published a statement claiming that he had no knowledge of hazing. Northwestern players even published a declaration defending their coach, while Schill admitted that he could have been mistaken in the suspension of Fitzgerald.
But more former players presented allegations of racism, which finally led Schill to completely dismiss Fitzgerald.
