The SJC decides to modify the code of conduct of judges

The Council also discussed the proposed draft rules governing the procedure and conduct of the affairs of the Council.

ISLAMABAD:

The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) of Pakistan on Thursday decided to introduce certain amendments to the Code of Conduct of Judges while examining a series of institutional and administrative issues in a meeting held at the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The meeting was chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi in his capacity as Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council. It was attended by Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court, Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, Justices of the Supreme Court, Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Judge of the Federal Constitutional Court, Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, and Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Justice Aalia Neelum. Peshawar High Court Chief Justice SM Attique Shah participated as an alternate member.

The Council also discussed the proposed draft rules governing the procedure and conduct of the affairs of the Council. However, the matter was postponed for further deliberations.

In what was described as a show of institutional accountability and transparency, the Council addressed issues concerning some of its own members. To this end, the meetings were held in different compositions in accordance with the relevant constitutional provisions.

The reconstituted Council included Supreme Court Justices Justices Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Ayesha A. Malik and Federal Constitutional Court Justices Justices Aamer Farooq and Ali Baqar Najafi as alternate members.

During the work, the Council examined ten questions under Article 209 of the Constitution and resolved all the questions on the agenda.
