For years, landing Timothée Chalamet meant landing one of Hollywood’s hottest young stars.
Now, insiders say the scenario may be changing.
According to multiple sources, the Oscar-nominated actor is no longer automatically the first choice for some of Hollywood’s biggest prestigious projects — a change they say has more to do with perception than performance.
“No one stays hot forever, but Timothée cooled down faster than expected,” a casting veteran told Rob Shutter’s well-placed source.
“It was only a few years ago that every major storyline landed on his desk first. That just doesn’t happen anymore.”
Sources insist there was not a single turning point. Instead, they highlight a series of public moments, including his support of Kalshi’s prediction market and his recent remark that he would rather see the New York Knicks win an NBA championship than an Oscar.
“It’s not one moment, it’s a series of moments,” another source explained.
“The feeling around town is that Timothée is more focused on being a celebrity than on protecting the mystery that made the public fall in love with him in the first place.”
Some casting executives say another young star is now getting the first call.
“For a lot of roles today, I would call Tom Holland before Timothée,” added a casting executive.
“Tom has a reputation for being collaborative, reliable and easy to work with. When you invest $100 million in a film, those qualities carry enormous weight.”
Another source summed up the emotional nature of Hollywood with a reminder that all stars know well: “This town is unforgiving. You’re only as sexy as your last few months.”
