Update: Amazon Game Studio has now provided TechRadar Gaming with a statement regarding comments from Amazon Gaming CEO Jeff Gattis.
“Amazon MGM holds the rights to all future James Bond video games but it is too early to discuss future projects,” an Amazon spokesperson said.

Fans reacting to the news are worried about the future of IOI’s Bond games, with one fan on Reddit saying it appears Amazon “might be hinting that the sequel will be made without IO Interactive, if so Amazon is making a big mistake.”
There’s a big distinction between publishing and developing a game, so it’s important to note that it appears IO Interactive will still be the one creating the Bond games, while Amazon Game Studios will fund them, which could mean the latter will have more input into the projects.
Gattis went on to say that Amazon is eager to expand into games so it can create synergy with its TV shows and movies, something it could do with IO Interactive games and the company’s next James Bond movie, currently in the works.
“We think this is a real opportunity for us to create intellectual property that expands — or sort of expands — TV shows and movies,” Gattis said. “So there will be a Tomb Raider TV show on Prime Video that will accompany the games. We have a lot of stuff in the works on new games that will tie into the Prime Video IP.”
TechRadar UK Home Entertainment Editor Amelia Schwanke reviewed 007 First Light four stars in its review, calling it “a blockbuster original Bond story” that is “the closest game that’s ever come to making me feel like I’m starring in a Bond film.”
“IO Interactive takes the stealth sandbox of Hitman, the intense thrills of Uncharted and the experimental espionage of Batman: Arkham, and reshapes them into a cinematic travel spy thriller filled with secret missions, explosive action and cool gadgets,” Schwanke said. “Even though the campaign’s immersion sometimes lags, this stylish original story still feels like a triumphant return for the most iconic secret agent.”
