A new trailer for Zach Cregger resident Evil The movie is out and it’s filled with Easter eggs referencing the beloved video game series.
The first teaser for the upcoming adaptation has already convinced me, but the latest full official trailer has convinced me that it could be as good as Cregger’s other horror films, Weapons And Barbarous.
“In a whole new story, resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in a relentless, action-packed race for survival as a fateful and horrific night collapses around him in chaos,” reads the official synopsis.
The trailer features Bryan, who is on his way to Raccoon City to deliver medical equipment to General Hospital, when he crashes into what looks like a zombie. This seems like a reminder to Resident Evil 2 opening sequence and is just one of many Easter eggs and references that fans picked up on in the trailer as well.
Look on it
In classic resident Evil mode, Bryan finds a shotgun on a wall but no ammo, and he can be seen desperately searching a creepy, abandoned house while hiding from a zombie.
When he finally finds some shotgun shells, they are very clearly the same ones shown in Resident Evil 4oddly enough. There’s also a quick shot of a dark room, and a typewriter can be seen on the desk, a neat little reference to the save points in the games’ safe rooms.
Cregger’s adaptation is confirmed to take place in 1998 during the events of Resident Evil 2but the director confirmed that Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield would not make an appearance.
resident Evil released in theaters on September 18.
