The news comes from a leaked internal memo revealing that Xbox CEO Asha Sharma believed Game Pass had “become too expensive for gamers” and wanted to “evolve” the service. “We need a better value equation,” she said.
Although Game Pass is about to get cheaper, these new prices are still higher than they were this time last year. The price of Game Pass increased for all subscription tiers in October 2025, with Ultimate increasing to $29.99/£22.99 per month from $19.99/£14.99 per month.
The company also stopped offering a 12-month plan, which offered buyers the plan at a slightly lower cost.
The Verge reported that one of the reasons for this price increase was the trend to include Call of Duty from the first day of service – a practice that likely decreased launch sales.
